Stainless steel 201

Material type: Fiberglass laminate, Non-conductive, Strong, Lightweight, Chemical resistant

G-10 is a high-pressure fiberglass laminate made by stacking layers of glass cloth soaked in epoxy resin, compressed under heat. It is part of the FR-4 family but without flame-retardant additives. Known for its excellent strength, low moisture absorption, and electrical insulating properties, it is widely used in electronics, tools, and knife handles.

Material advantages

  • Excellent electrical insulating properties

  • High mechanical strength and impact resistance

  • Lightweight and moisture resistant

  • Easy to machine into precise shapes

  • Cost-effective compared to carbon fiber

Material shortcomings

  • Lower strength-to-weight ratio compared to carbon fiber

  • Can degrade under continuous UV exposure if not coated

  • Brittle under extreme impact loads

  • Lower heat resistance than advanced composites
